Edimbra', Glasgow, Belfast, Broughton, Birmingham and finally Bristol. After 2 years the A380 showed up again in its flying over the UK. Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England, all in a day. Then a night at home, and today at 12 noon the take off from Filton runway not sure to which the destination though...Bremen apparently! Anyway...I couldn't make it for the landing yesterday afternoon, but since is not very usual too see the big plane here I went this morning to see the take off. And I absolutely loved it since the car park is just by the runway, and the plane took off just in front of the eyes...! It's big...it's massive in fact...not too noisy, and it took less than half of the runway to take off. I wish I could see one every day...I hope I could fly on it sooner or later.
That is what a colleague (or should I say a friend?) of mine told me shortly after I won once again the prize at the mid year comms session this morning!! Yes...again me, second time in a row...unbelievable...!
Last December the question was on about Santa Claus and the A330, this time instead was something a bit more complex...
If all the men and women on earth would like to buy all the Airbus Aircraft sold up to the end of 2008, how much each of them should pay in USD...?
I underestimate the number of people on earth (I though about 4 billions, instead I found out there are over 6 billions) but at the same time I underestimate also the number of airplane we sold in Airbus history...so in the end I worked out about 195$...where the correct answer was 163$...! Not too bad...
So, once again a sparkling Rose' in the cupboard...!
...yeah OK true that I have bought a flat just now...but you know...I am always up for new experiences...and so I have asked my boss if there were any chances to go for a secondment somewhere... he came back to me saying that Airbus has just opened a new office. That is not be in UK, but fair enough...it is always raining here, and it is not engineering, but it is more commercial oriented...I am thinking about that but I think is a good chance to learn something new...so I am tempted to accept. He actually sent me also a picture of the new office... I'd love it....!!
It was Friday, and we were asked to go to work with our favourite clothes, t-shirt, jumper of whatever...! Definitely an occasion not to miss...Purple Airbus...!
First thing. As for today I am officially unemployed. So let's say the 28th will be the first day ever in my life without a job...but honestly...who wants to go to work on the 28th...???? Nevertheless...
I am not 100% sure it was the right thing to do...last year I was at work until the very last day cos I run out of holidays and I enjoyed it, since last few days the Christmas atmosphere took over and making quite pleasing going to work. This year I decided to go for the same...but honestly maybe I stretched it too long. Also because in the end I had still two days of holidays left...! Office was desert yesterday and today, only very few of us...and because of that, a less cheering atmosphere...! OK today I worked 9 to 15.30, with a good hour of pub lunch, plus the A380 "refreshment" in the morning...so really a soft day, but yesterday it was a proper one contrary to my expectations...! Whatever... I packed all my stuff...The big luggage is almost full with presents, the small one carries my stuff...I am clever I know...! Taxi is booked for 5.15, few hours later Tommy will pick me up in Pisa...and for 10 days I'll be in Tuscany! Back to Bristol the night of the 4th of January, ready to start the next morning the new, craved, job...!
Santa's reindeers are sick and he's desperate cos he can't deliver presents to kids...! Airbus kindly offered to lend an A330-200 plus pilot and cabin crew, provided that Santa pays for the fuel...The price is 0.5$ per liter in Lapland...Santa needs a full tank...how much is he gonna spend...?
There was a prize for the correct answer...a bottle of wine...
And so it happened that, among all the people that took part to the comms session today, my answer was the closest to the result...and the wine bottle is now in my cupboard...!!! :))
(and I also shacked the hand to the vice-president Engineering for Airbus UK....whhheeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! :)
It is long a Monday at work...even longer if it is the first day after 4 days at home...It was an unplanned break, so you leave everything open...and once back what you find? Tonnes of
emails to read and things to catch up with...talk to his guy, to
that one, do this, do that and so on... It is the second time I have
taken days off sick...5 and half days in four years...acceptable...
Now the last effort...3 weeks until Christmas. They will be quite busy,
with many activities to close by the end of the year...and then a bit
of rest...few days at home...before the new adventure...
Seated in Stansted Airport Lounge I have four and half hours to wait before taking off to Pisa.
I am back to Italy for forty hours...no more...but it's over three months I don't go to Florence, and since I don't have any holidays left this was the only option. A cappuccino bought at Sturbucks is keeping me awake, and let my mind still think. I am tired. I am tired, but I had time to think about the future, about what lays ahead. Everyday we make very many choices...from the early morning...(What shall I wear today...?) throughout the whole day, till night...when it's time to decide what time to set the alarm for the next morning...We make very many choices every day, more or less important, but only few of them, very few of them gives the life a direction... As everybody does, I took my decisions...I gave my life its direction, and of course I am still doing it. It is a never ending game!
Yesterday I gave the resignation letter to my boss. I am joining Airbus at last. Starting from January the 5th. It's a funny feeling cos this was the reason why I decided to move to Bristol, my objective, pursued for almost 4 years, but I found a fantastic bunch of people in my company, and honestly it's a shame not to work with them any more. But that's it...Airbus is my priority at the moment work-wise...and now I have the chance.
let's see where it will bring me...Being aware of this possibility, few weeks ago, when my parents came to visit we finally decided something we have discussed for few months now. It is time to look for a flat to buy...in Bristol. I had several views and now I have a better idea of what I would like. Interest rate has been cut of 1.5% yesterday, a massive cut. That's the signal...it is time to act. Soon I will.
And so a new job, hopefully a new house, my house. Big changes, big decisions, which will be followed by what title to give to the blog once I moved out from Hughenden Road...that-s maybe the biggest one...
What I remember from that day is not completely clear...I mean I do
remember everything...but it is a kind of vague memory, something not well
defined...
I remember the tension of the days before...as well as the stress of that
morning...I remember the tiredness at the end of few weeks in which the
things to do seem to be never-ending and the time you have seems too short even for a coffee...
It is the last day of the University...after years when the target
seemed very far away, it is the day in which you see all your past
effort materializes, it is the day in which to study is no longer a
duty...it is the day of the
graduation...
When everything was finished, everything was even more confused...I do
remember really a little from the day...if not many phone calls and
texts received...
but
if I have to say now...I don't remember what I said to all the
people...so great it was the emotions and the relief...it must have
been something also stupid sometimes... :)
I wish I had lived that time a bit more relaxed and I had enjoyed it
more than what I did...but maybe this is something easy to say
afterwards...but not realistic.
And
two years later what has changed...? Well...hard to say...since on the
7th of June I was already back to work. I didn't really feel and
experience the change from the Uni to the working environment...if not
maybe one year before when I first moved to Bristol to start the
placement...Nevertheless, work wise the experience grows a little bit everyday...and the work become more interesting to more you deepen the knowledge...the more you get familiar with it...So far so good...
Two more things...all the other pictures and the thesis...really in case you have nothing better to do...!
Sunday night...just about to go to sleep...it is 1.10 am...so technically is already Monday morning...
On TV they are showing the world cup 06 final...but I don't care as I didn't 2 years ago...Outside everything is silent and dark of course...
Tomorrow morning I will get to work and have a new desk...Finally, the guys I am working with are moving to my building...and I will be seated next to them...which will make everything easier...even if perhaps I will be under control from now on... :)
Last Saturday the new flatmate (Biri) moved in...and finally Matt made us the favour to leave and to annoy somewhere else...I could not really stand him...! Dirty, messy, not friendly at all... The worse flatmate I had in three and half years...
Biri is an indian guy...and guess what...? He works for Airbus as well...and not just for Airbus...but also in my building... Tomorrow we will meet at coffee shop downstairs at 10.30 ish... just about being under control... :)
He seems very nice and also friendly...I really hope he is...!
After 20 days finally we have also the new Wi-Fi network at home...as I
was saying few days ago... Yesterday the new contract took over...it
will be £4.99 per month...
