I am writing from my bedroom in Grassina. The light is on, the window is closed. It is too hot to open it. The heat outside is unbelievable. The car thermometer said 40˚C, the official one stopped at 38.5˚C in Florence today. One of the hottest day I ever remember here. It’s not long since I tried the emotions of 50˚C in the death valley...that was another story...but I can tell you...being out at 4pm this afternoon was simply mad...!! Just now 2000 km from here is heavy raining with 15˚C. Bristol, I am talking about Bristol...Which ever I prefer I am not gonna tell you now...!
...and it was indeed...! Just...just half a degree above 30, for the hottest day of the last 3 years...! It has been hot the whole week, with rain on and off and sunshine otherwise. Thunderstorms are expected for tomorrow...It will start to cool down now...more than 10 C˚ in couple of days...back in line with the average for beginning of July...! Cold winter followed by hot summer...mild winter followed by warm summer...something that is maybe worth analyzing more in details...
I think this summer will bring more days like this...It's not a forecast, it is only based on nothing, just my sensation... The forecast was done Saturday night...and it was right...!
Hello again...
What an interesting "meteo" day today...
Last night the temperature drop down to -3.2 °C. A crisp winter morning with frost (not Terry :)) everywhere.
Today at 11.30 the temperature was still below freezing.
There was a short spell, between 12.10 and 12.35 in which the temperature raised just above 0, to fall again straight after. The fog came quite quickly, and quite thick as well.
At 13.30 the temperature was -1.6 °C to reach a peak at -2.9 °C at 17.30 ish.Visibility I'd say was under 100 m Then pressure fell, a light easterly breeze started to blow, the fog cleared slowly and the temperature raised to reach the maximum of the day at 23.59 with 1.1 °C.
Now the frost disappeared...and everything is wet...sad I'd say...
I love when the frost covers everything, car windows, roofs, lawns, gardens, trees...everything...
...There is really no reason why I like it...I just do...
Here we are again...
Last working week started this morning with a good resolution...!
"Today I will leave at 16.30..." I thought...I got back home it was 19:40... A Good start... :)
However, I have to say that I spent the last hour finishing off something that me and some of my colleagues have prepared for a friend of ours...! I can't tell more than that about it now, cos he might find out... I will tell more in the next days...!!
It is gonna be a good laugh the delivery though... (and I have to say the present is not bad at all)
Tomorrow we have the monthly meeting with the team at work. We will going through all the works we have done this years, spotting achievements, issues and so on...! Everyone has to prepare a slide... I still have to do mine... :)
Tomorrow night I am at Serena's for dinner, and Wednesday at Marco's...which is good...
I have to empty the fridge by Saturday though since then I'm off in Italy for the Christmas break...
A brief Meteo recap for today
Still High Pressure over the UK. Overcast in the morning, then cleared up around lunch time, to end up with a mostly cloudy sky in the night. Light easterly breeze all day long. Very Cold.
Min. Temperature: -2.5 C°
Max. Temperature: +2.8 C°
PS. Serena and Marco are two of my friends, both from Tuscany...one from the countryside north, Marco from Massa...even if he lived in Florence a little bit...and Serena from the countryside south...Piombino...deh ma deh... :)
first of all I would like to welcome you to 18 Hughenden Road.
You will learn to know this place better and better as time goes by...!
For whoever doesn't know me, I am Leo, from Florence, Italy, but living in Bristol from almost 3 years by now...
As you can easily understand 18 Hughenden Road is where I live...with Andrew and Matt...my two English flatmates...
I would have liked 18hughendenroad to be also the URL for this blog, but unfortunately vox.com doesn't allow an URL
to start with a number...so I had to change my mind...! That's why the blog URL is bs82tt.vox.com. That's the post code that identify this place...
I have to say that I am not original though...this idea is not mine, I have taken it from one of the nicest book I read recently: 44 Scotland Street, written by A.McCall Smith.
In my books section you can find a bit more about it... In the future I will write something on this author...
Coming back to myself, I have quite few passions in my life...
First of all my football team... Fiorentina who doesn't know it...? :)
Secondly I am very interested in meteorology. At the beginning was onlt a passion for the snow...but then it turned in a proper passion for all the meteo events; I started reading books, trying to understand, interpret weather maps and make my own forecasts ...
I live in the UK as at the moment I am working here. The work is strictly related to my third big passion which are airplanes. I am not a pilot though...don't worry... I am an just engineer (even if you wouldn't say that looking at my profile picture...I know...).
There is no a particular reason about this blog...if not to keep in touch with my friends, and tell thenm how the life is going on...as well as to use it as my own log...I will write mainly in English, so that all my friends can read it...but occasionally it will happen to write something in Italian...
Oki doki...enough for now... ciao ciao...
